Rug Cleaning in Maitland
Collection and delivery in Maitland are included. We take the rug back to the workshop, wash it properly, and bring it home.
What Maitland is built from
One of the oldest incorporated suburbs in Central Florida, a town since 1885 on the shore of Lake Maitland and grown out of citrus land. The stock is unusually mixed: 1920s cottages, post-war ranch houses on slab, 1970s and 1980s lakefront and courtyard houses and new infill, all of it under heavy oak around Lake Lily and Lake Maitland.
Settled, largely owner-occupied and generational. This is where a rug is most likely to have arrived by inheritance rather than purchase — a piece out of a parent's house up north that went into a Florida room, a garage or a spare bedroom while somebody worked out what to do with it.
The Maitland problem
The characteristic problem in these houses is storage rather than use. A rug that arrives from a relative's estate almost never goes straight down on a floor; it goes into a garage, an attic, a Florida room or a rented unit while the family decides whether they even want it, and in Central Florida every one of those places is unconditioned. A garage here in August is dark, still, above ninety degrees and sitting at outdoor humidity, which is simultaneously the ideal environment for mildew in a cotton foundation and the ideal nursery for clothes moths, who want warmth, darkness and no traffic. Six months of that does more harm than ten years of being walked on. Rolled tightly and sealed in plastic is worse again, because the plastic holds the moisture in with the wool rather than keeping it out. The rugs we collect from these houses are frequently sound through the pile and quietly wrecked along one edge and across the back, and the owner has no idea, because it has not been unrolled since it came off the truck.
If that sounds like your rug, send the form and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you whether it needs the full treatment or not.
